Portraits of Pride Gala

Portraits of Pride → Boston LGBTQ+ Museum Portraits of Pride began as a project dedicated to celebrating, documenting, and increasing the visibility of LGBTQ+ people through portraiture, storytelling, public art, and community representation. What started as a visual campaign grew into something much larger: an effort to preserve the people, stories, culture, and history of the LGBTQ+ community in Boston and beyond. Over time, Portraits of Pride expanded beyond simply creating portraits. We worked on public exhibitions, community programming, large-scale visual installations, digital promotion, partnerships, and opportunities to place LGBTQ+ stories in spaces where they could reach a much broader audience. One of the important collaborations included working with Orange Barrel Media, helping bring Portraits of Pride into highly visible public-facing environments. As the project grew, it became clear that these stories deserved more than temporary exhibitions or campaigns. There was an opportunity to create a permanent institution dedicated to preserving them. That evolution ultimately helped lead to the creation and development of the Boston LGBTQ+ Museum, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on preserving and celebrating LGBTQ+ history, art, culture, and community. The museum concept expanded the original mission of Portraits of Pride into exhibitions, educational programming, cultural events, storytelling, historical preservation, and community engagement. Programming has included initiatives such as Portraits of Pride, the Queer Arts Festival, Rainbow Tales, and exhibitions through the Pryde Gallery, while working toward the much larger goal of establishing a permanent LGBTQ+ museum in Boston. The long-term vision is not simply to create another gallery. It is to build an institution where LGBTQ+ history is collected, protected, taught, exhibited, and passed on to future generations—while continuing to celebrate the people who are making that history today. In that sense, Portraits of Pride became more than a campaign. It became part of the foundation for the Boston LGBTQ+ Museum.
